About
The purpose of Google Chrome (if I may make some educated guesses here) is not specifically to create a new web browser to compete with the likes of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, or Netscape. Its best to think of Chrome as a new platform… a target to create web pages and applications for. But not just static web pages… people nowadays want rich, lively and FAST user experiences.
Google means to leverage its already wide base of web-based applications including Gmail, Google Documents and many others coming down the pipe. Google Chrome is designed to make those applications run faster.
The technologies involved are the web-based programming languages such as JavaScript, AJAX, DHTML, XHTML, XML and whatever else new comes along.
One of the benefits for the user, is that Google Chrome contains an engine that can execute JavaScript commands faster than other web browsers. The benefits for the developer include a known platform that they can write applications for in JavaScript, AJAX, JSON or whatever and not have to worry about the cross-browser problems that typical web developers have to deal with. Their solutions can be blazing fast, and their development time can be quicker.
These are just some of the reason of why you should consider using Google Chrome as your web browser.
About Gears
Google Gears is an integral part of the Chrome web browser. You may want to look into it to learn more about how Google Chrome works “under the hood”. To get started with developing apps that take advantage of Google Gears and will work well with Chrome, check out the Getting Started page at the Gears API Website.
